The UK government plans to generate the most nuclear power in 70 years. The country announced this on Thursday. They said the steps were taken to strengthen the UK’s self-reliance in electricity generation and meet carbon emissions targets. AFP reports this news.
In the Civil Nuclear Roadmap, plans to invest 382 million dollars in construction of a new large nuclear power plant, production of high-quality uranium fuel and formulation of ‘smart regulation’ have been undertaken. A comprehensive set of measures to increase UK electricity generation will quadruple the country’s nuclear power generation to 24 gigawatts by 2050, enough to supply a quarter of the UK’s electricity needs.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, ‘Nuclear is the right antidote to Britain’s electricity challenge. And it will be environmentally friendly, cost-effective in the long term and ensure the UK’s energy security.
He further said, “This is the right decision in the long term and it is an advance step towards fulfilling our commitment to nuclear power generation.” Which will take us to zero carbon emissions by 2050.
